It is a common proverb that life is unpredictable - one moment you are at the peak of your happiness, and in the next moment, you find yourself tumbling down to the bottom of despair. Rock Bottom
I had everything a person could dream of - a well-paying job, a beautiful family, and a luxurious lifestyle. But, fate had other plans for me. In the blink of an eye, I lost my job, my family fell apart, and I found myself estranged from everything I once held dear. I lost the motivation to do anything, and my life came to a complete standstill. I had hit rock bottom, and I had no clue how to pick myself up.
The Road to Recovery
It took me a while to realize that the only way out of the hole I had dug myself into was to start clawing my way out. The journey seemed impossible, but I knew I had to put one foot in front of the other to keep moving forward. I started by taking small steps - I found solace in meditation and started to practice yoga. These practices gave me a sense of calm amidst my turbulent life. I started to read books on self-help and psychology, which eventually led me to seek out professional counseling.
Although going to therapy was daunting at first, talking to someone about my problems, and being listened to, was therapeutic. It gave me the strength to face my fears, confront my inner demons, and come to terms with the harsh realities of life. I made peace with the past, forgave myself for my mistakes, and learned to live in the present, rather than dwelling on the past or worrying about the future.
Oneself
One of the biggest lessons I learned on this journey of self-awakening is the importance of self-care. In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we tend to neglect ourselves, our mental and physical well-being, and our relationships. We do not give ourselves the love and attention we deserve, and this neglect can lead to burnout, anxiety, and depression.
Putting oneself first may sound selfish, but it is an act of self-preservation. Self-care involves taking care of our body, mind, and soul. It means exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, eating a balanced diet, practicing mindfulness, and doing things that make us happy. It means surrounding ourselves with positive, supportive people and letting go of toxic relationships. It means setting boundaries and saying no when necessary.
Being kind to oneself and practicing self-care is not an act of indulgence, but an act of self-love. It is a reminder that we are worthy of love, respect, and kindness - especially from ourselves.
The journey of self-awakening is never-ending - it is a continuous process of growth, learning, and self-discovery. But, it is a journey worth taking. It is a journey that illuminates the path towards a fulfilling life, a life that is true, authentic, and full of joy, peace, and contentment.
